Ramón M. Guerra, Esq.
Ramón's passion for serving the immigrant community is what inspired him to go to law school. As a child of immigrants from Mexico and Guatemala, and having been raised in a community of immigrants, Ramón understands first hand the obstacles and challenges that immigrants face when coming to a new country.
Ramón attended St. Mary's University School of Law in 2005 and began representing clients as a student attorney at St. Mary's Legal and Social Justice Immigrant and Human Rights Clinic. Through the Clinic, he assisted immigrants along the Texas/Mexico border with pro-bono legal consultations, translations and the processing of immigration forms. Ramón also successfully argued relief from deportation cases before the federal immigration court in San Antonio, Texas.
To improve his understanding of the immigrant community he serves, Ramón also earned a Masters in International Relations, focusing on relations between the United States, Mexico, Central and South America and the Caribbean. This field of study, coupled with his experiences growing up in an immigrant household, has given him a unique understanding of the social/economic/political causes and implications for migration within the Americas.
Graduating law school in 2008, Ramón continued working with immigration attorneys and gaining experience in family petitions, adjustments of status, relief from deportation and non-immigrant visas. He frequently volunteered at the Los Angeles County Bar's Immigrant Assistance Project, providing pro-bono onsite legal services to immigrant clients.
Wanting to diversify his legal knowledge and professional experience, Ramón joined Luna & Glushon, LLP, a business litigation law firm based in Los Angeles, California in 2009. At Luna & Glushon, he assisted in representing energy clients and governmental entities and gained experience in business litigation matters involving complex financial transactions, oil and gas law, local school bond measures, and land disputes. This three year experience helped him become a well-rounded attorney, giving him a background in corporate law and legal business matters.
Currently, Ramón is the founder and manager of the Law Firm of Ramón M. Guerra and the Firm’s practice is exclusively dedicated to immigration and naturalization law. He also sits on the Board of the Mexican Coalition and works with other immigrant rights groups, and is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, which is the largest attorney organization in the United States advocating for immigrant rights nationally. He also served as the Co-Chair of the AILA Pro-Bono Committee for the New York City Chapter, which was in charge the AILA juvenile docket for immigration court located in New York City. This docket was responsible for finding pro-bono representation for children in deportation proceedings.
Along with his law practice, Ramón teaches US History and Immigration Law, and Health Law and Economics as an Adjunct Professor at the City College of the City University of New York, and as an Adjunct Professor at Villanova University’s Interdisciplinary Immigration Studies Training for Advocates (VIISTA) program.
